The French ruminant livestock farming system is aligned with the goal of sustainable and responsible production, and it contributes to our food sovereignty. Primarily grass-based and small-scale, it is autonomous and respectful of animal welfare. It maintains a strong connection with local territories, shapes landscapes, helps preserve soil fertility, contributes to carbon sequestration, and protects biodiversity by maintaining and enhancing natural resources.

Ruminant farming thus provides many often-overlooked services that the CNE and industry sectors, with the support of the Livestock Institute, aim to highlight and promote.

Thanks to a synthesis of scientific and technical knowledge, 22 thematic fact sheets have been produced to provide an objective, quantified, and well-argued description of current practices and services provided, as well as the solutions implemented and supported by the profession and the sectors to drive progress.
